This is a picture of our sweet Hannah shortly after she was born. The gown, matching hat and blanket were a gift from a friend at our baby shower. They were one of my favorites and turned out to be one of hers too. She sleeps with the blanket which we affectionately call "blue nighny" to this day. I think blankies are the sweetest things (maybe because I slept with mine until I was 15. I would still be sleeping with it if my childhood cat hadn't died. I just knew burying him wrapped in it was the right thing to do...sniff!) Anyway, back to Hannah. Whenever blue nighny mysteriously disappears like it did a few days ago, I get out the little gown and give her that to sleep with.
So, this morning we were having one of "those" mornings. You know the kind where you ask your kids to please go make their beds, brush their teeth and put their shoes and socks on, and they look at you like they can't believe you would be so cruel. Suddenly their arms and legs don't work, they forget how to put toothpaste on their toothbrushes and their socks mysteriously hurt their feet. I know all you grandparents reading this are thinking..."well, how could you be so cruel?" What can I say? I learned from the best! :)
Somehow we managed to get out the door, but not without blue nighny gown. By the time we pulled in to the parking lot at school Hannah had settled down, but she wasn't about to turn loose of her blue nighny gown. So, I told her to just put it in her backpack which she did. She also managed to throw her mean old mother some serious "stink eye" as I pulled away from school.
Anyway, she was in a much better mood when I picked her up from school today...and you'll never guess what she was wearing.
Apparently it still fits!
